Fermion Masses and Mixing Angles from SU (3) Family Symmetry
We propose a model based on SU(3) family symmetry which leads to a successful description of quark and lepton masses and mixing angles including approximate bi-maximal mixing in the neutrino sector suitable for the LOW or quasi-vacuum solar solutions, with the atmospheric angle predicted to be accurately maximal due to the SU(3) symmetry. The model predicts a CHOOZ angle θ13 ∼ |Vub|. The SU(3) ...
متن کاملFermion Masses and Mixing in Thick Branes
Fermion masses and mixing, both in the quark and leptonic sector, are discussed within the approach to the Yukawa puzzle proposed by Arkani-Hamed and Schmaltz. In the quark sector we have shown that at least two extra dimensions are necessary in order to obtain sufficient CP violation, while reproducing the correct quark mass spectrum and mixing angles. We have also studied the consequences of ...

The possibility of adding an SU (2) horizontal symmetry to the 331 model is studied. It is found that simple, anomaly-free fermion assignments can be made which lead to plausible results for fermion masses and mixings. In particular, all particles of the first generation are massless at tree-level, and the CKM matrix acquires a realistic form.

متن کاملSystematic study of fermion masses and mixing angles in horizontal SU(2) gauge theory.
Despite its great success in explaining the basic interactions of nature, the standard model suffers from an inability to explain the observed masses of the fundamental particles and the weak mixing angles between them. We shall survey a set of possible extensions to the standard model, employing an SU(2) " horizontal " gauge symmetry between the particle generations, to see what light they can...
